What Millie’s Book is Not...

𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗶𝗻 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗼𝗻?

*** a child battling a terminal illness?

***an older generation getting close to the end of their lifetime?

***a parent preparing to tell their child about death?

***a neighbor, a friend, even a news story?

𝗔𝗹𝗹 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗱𝗲𝗮𝘁𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻.

Often when we have a loved one die, we are tempted to try and make death easier for the children in our family. We say things that can be confusing to little ones.

“Daddy had to go away.”

“Grandma is now gone to a better place.”

“The baby is now an angel with God.”

While these statements give us adults something to say, for children they leave questions and even a fear of death.

Young children often see death as temporary and even reversable thing due to the exposure they see on the many tv programs, especially cartoons.

When I wrote “𝐌𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐞 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐫 𝐌𝐢𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐥𝐞” I wanted it to be a book that would allow conversations between parents and children about what comes next. I wanted a gentle introduction about death and heaven, allowing parents to follow up with their faith and beliefs.

What Millie’s book is not:

𝐈𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚 𝐛𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐜𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐝𝐡𝐨𝐨𝐝 𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐞𝐫. Though the pictures depict a bald child, nowhere is cancer mentioned.

It is not a scary book. It shows each scene peacefully, even those that have medical stuff in the picture. Only one page shows tears.

It is not only a book that is useful to child loss. This book can be read to any child, anywhere, without them even having death currently affecting their lives.

Let’s face it, children will be faced with death and grief in their lifetime. It is inevitable and we, as care givers, must decide how we will teach them healthy ways to cope with loss.

It was on my heart today to share this because 𝗜 𝘄𝗼𝗻𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝘆 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝘆𝗼𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝗰𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗿 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗻 𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸? How many of you have children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, or neighbors in your life that this book can be read to?

Keep sharing!
