I am entering another year that my girl never saw here on earth. This is the third News Years Eve to celebrate without as we remember that our family has a gaping hole in it. A spot that should hold a 6-year-old, eager to run and play with the other kids, being chased away from the sweets table, whining because we kept her up too late, ohhing and ahhing over the fireworks we will set off tonight.
What would she look like now? Long blond hair? Maybe it would be brown by now? It’s so hard to imagine all the things that will never come to pass. It’s hard to imagine how we will fill the many more years that will come in our lives where her only part will be for us to share her memory, to keep her story alive, to tell others of God’s goodness in the midst of our sorrow. To remind them of our precious forever 3-year-old named Millie.
As we set goals and resolutions tonight for the new year, I believe I’m being called to focus on how I have been crushed but not broken in life. There are many deep thoughts by that phrase, but crushing is not always bad. It is often so very painful, yet it has much purpose and good that can come from it. I will elaborate on that more later, but for now I am realizing that part of my crushing and renewing of life is sharing this book with other hurting families. Focusing on how to use my scars, my pain—for God’s glory.
Please feel free to share about the book from any of these posts. Tell everyone you know because someone you know has walked this same painful journey. Someone feels alone, lost, hopeless. My heart is to meet these needs by pointing to Jesus as we share our story.
